Paleontological Society & Geoscience Congressional Visit Days 2025

Apply to represent the Paleontological Society in Washington DC for Geoscience Congressional Visits Day (Geo-CVD)!

The Paleontological Society (PS), through its Government Affairs Committee (GAC), will be sponsoring 8-10 members to participate in the Geoscience Congressional Visits Day on September 9th (workshop) and September 10th (congressional visits). PS representatives will join members of other geoscience societies, including the Geological Society of America (GSA), American Geophysical Union (AGU), Seismological Society of America (SSA) and American Meteorological Society (AMS).

The geoscience community is vulnerable to recent administration changes in priorities. These include access, funding, and preservation of research and research materials. Our voices are stronger together, and it is now more important than ever to advocate for paleontology.
  • Participants in this GEO-CVD will get the opportunity to:
  • Engage with policy experts working in Congress and across the federal government
  • Learn about current science policy issues and how to communicate with legislators
  • Meet with your legislators to address key science policy issues
  • Network with other scientists interested in science policy
  • Learn to communicate their scientific story and advocate for the geoscience community
Participation is open to all US-based PS members, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and avocational paleontologists. Participants will be eligible for reimbursement of their travel, food, and lodging expenses as part of their visit.
